Learning to Be Medical | Medical Me
With the arrival of Medicine music lights stage, ambition finally integrate a team full time for 2 and a half months, with total dedication. To monitor patients every day and evaluate their progress. Could go putting theory into practice music lights in a structured and supported way. This is my interpretation of a work experience. This is not what happened.
We were well received on the first day and all the doors open for the start of the stage. Then they took us to know the service. Gradually the group was decreasing as we were going to be presented and distributed by their tutors. Once on the ward, I was introduced music lights to other medical music lights elements, I met the head nurse and had the right to a guided tour of several of the infirmary rooms. The die was cast.
In the following days, in the morning, patients and get to work were distributed. Gradually I got to know better the medical team, nurses, laboratory technicians and staff of the infirmary rest. I gained autonomy to see patients who were assigned me. Writing the diary, awaiting the opportunity to discuss with the tutor or someone more senior. I gave my opinion on the case, additional tests and treatment. The mid-morning the day was over. Via some other sick ward, the process, the exams, the instituted therapy. I was noticing me that while teamwork music lights was just in my learning. "The doctor's life is a lonely life." I wondered. There are skills the professional isolation is significant, but did not seem to me should be, at all, the case of Internal Medicine.
The days passed and I was trying to accomplish more medical tasks independently. The barriers were emerging. One difficulty music lights in communicating and delegating tasks to younger, less knowledgeable, less experienced, but much more eager to learn, music lights grow and be useful music lights to their future music lights peers. Naturally took every chance to see and perform procedures and techniques that stemmed around me. Electrocardiograms, gasimetrias, venous punctures, music lights biological material crops, oxygen therapy administration and many others.
One day, academically, it was suggested music lights me to do therapy music lights to a patient in a paper without consulting therapy he did today. Emerged me some questions that sought to clarify. "Who makes a good therapy, do so." Constructive. Finally around the third week, on its own initiative, adjusted therapy of the patient I observed on that day and submitted the approval of the tutor. "You have to do your therapy on paper, without consulting the process." I felt stagnate in time. It is true that I am no expert in therapy. It is true that in the first attempts failures arise, but it would be where the tutor value if would feel. In constructive music lights correction. The strengthening of good reasoning. "I just say what's wrong. What is good is not to say. "
They began to define limits to my performance that showed hard to beat. The lack of stimulation and motivation were settling. Step-by-step indelibly. Almost dropped my arms. But the stage was long, it was worth fighting for weeks! I changed the focus. We are not all equal. That's the strength of a team. Gradually I was leaning on me who gave me an empathetic response, constructive encouragement and made me feel useful and appropriate in my doctor's apprentice work. This allowed the following weeks were running more productively. But stuccoed based on motivation and ambitions had already been given. The aim now was to minimize the damage. Remove something good the other day and the observed patients. However, the potential and original objectives have been foiled and an excellent partially wasted opportunity.
What I feel. That there was a lack of synergy between tutor and student. Why? Incompatibility of personalities? It can be. Lack of motivation to teach some. Lack of motivation for the profession that teaches, is what I feel more certain. "What I did not give for not being here!"
Despite this context, thanks to the rest of the medical team, I was able to take advantage of the stage and the days spent in the infirmary. The ward routines that are created, the comfortable with spoken with patients, that examines and evaluates your physical and mental music lights state. Continuous contact with frequent diseases and their different shades. The most serious cases, sometimes fatal. Severe cases that surprise us with a positive evoluação. A whole series of possible only experiences a longer like this stage.
